Info
Cause
The hip can occasionally dislocate, most commonly due to trauma.
Diagnosis
To diagnose and plan the best treatment we use x-rays.
Treatment
There are multiple treatments available, which will be discussed by your surgeon, including artificial hip ligaments (toggles) or a temporary pin.
After-care
Your pet will require at least six weeks of careful confinement to prevent running, jumping and playing after surgery while the bone heals, combined with controlled lead-only walks and physiotherapy.
Outcome
Most pets achieve complete resolution of lameness and unrestricted exercise within a few months of surgery without pain relief. Arthritis can progress in the long term.
